The Pension Fund assigns a higher fixed payment for the insurance pension of persons with underage dependents. The supplementary payment for dependents has been envisaged by law since the beginning of 2002. Only immediate family members of an elderly person are viewed as dependents who make the pensioner entitled to a higher fixed payment. First and foremost, these are the elderly person’s children younger than 18 or children aged from 18 to 23 if they are recognized as disabled before they come of age or if they are students. Brothers, sisters and grandsons younger than 18 or aged from 18 to 23 can also be designated as dependents unless they have other relatives of able-bodied age that must provide for them by law. The pension supplement adds to instead of replacing the social support assigned to the disabled person. The dependent supplement is assigned by request. There may be no need for additional documents if the PFR already has the necessary information, such as information about the dependent’s disability. In certain cases, the pensioner may be asked to provide certifying documents.
The fixed payment of the pensioner’s insurance pension will be raised for each dependent, but no more than three of them. The raise amounts to a third of the fixed payment, i.e. 2,406 rubles and 91 kopecks. So, the fixed payment reaches 7,220 rubles and 74 kopecks if there are three dependents or more. Please note that the Russian Pension Fund pays monthly compensations to non-working body-able citizens taking care of disabled persons or pensioners who are unable to take care of themselves for health reasons since 2002.
