Pension awareness lessons are about to begin at general-education schools, vocational and higher education establishments across Russia. Thousands of specialists representing territorial branches of the Russian Pension Fund will tell the young at schools, colleges, and universities about the Russian Pension system and pension-forming rules. Lessons are already in progress in some regions; they have evoked interest of both students and their teachers.
The eighth stage of the PFR pension-and-social-security awareness program for the young, entitled “Your Pension Is in Your Hands,” will start this year. PFR specialists will tell high-school, college, and university students how one becomes entitled to a pension and how the PFR activity is organized.
The Pension Fund prepares and publishes a pension-awareness textbook, which includes the latest adjustments to pension legislation, specially for such lessons. This is a small colorful booklet which gives answers to main questions of young people about the structure of the Russian pension system, and about how and when to earn a good pension.
The PFR textbook is updated every year, and the updated edition, which includes latest modifications to pension laws, is always printed for the new school year. The textbook dwells on the pension formula, pension points, and the possibility to increase one’s pension. It also gives illustrative examples of life factors and situations that could influence the pension’s size, which is particularly important for today’s schoolchildren since their pension will be calculated by the new rules. The textbook ends with a captivating test, which helps students assess their knowledge.
The pension awareness program for students kicked off in 2011. Education authorities in Russian constituent territories have been supporting the PFR initiative for years: agreements on the support for the PFR educational program for general-education schools, vocational and higher education institutions have been signed in all regions.
